Suspended Extraction And Suspended Insertion
General Information
When suspending a “live” load of people, it is never recommended that the cargo hook under the aircraft be solely used. It was never designed for this purpose and is unreliable. The use of a “Y” strap is a common method for backing up the cargo hook. First used by our team in the 70s when winches were not available. Larger aircraft may have the ability to have an RAD (rope attachment device) installed and forgo the cargo hook altogether. This type of rigging is easy when you have had the correct training.
